modified bitumen Roofs
Modified Bitumen Roof Systems are low-slope roofs that are durable, and weather resistant and composed of multiple layers. Modified Bitumen Roofs are common in high-traffic areas, and are used in smaller roof areas with high density service equipment. These roofs are thicker and have more resistance to building movement. Bitumen roofs are reinforced with polyester fibers and fiberglass which increases durability and strength. There are two types of modifiers that can be added to Bitumen Roofs: SBS and APP.
SBS (styrene-butadiene-styrene): This component increased flexibility of the membrane and allows strong contraction and expansion capabilities. This is a more popular option of the Modified Bitumen roof because the rubber additive provides increasing flexibility.
Modified Bitumen roof systems are installed with cold adhesives, the torch method, or asphalts. The standard SBS bitumen roof systems in a 2-ply systems applied in rolls.
